Mike Skot

Afternoons 3 PM - 7 PM Mon. - Fri.

I was born and raised on the west coast, and moved to Michigan in September of 2006. JOE convinced me to take the afternoon time slot on JOE-FM, and I’m glad I did! JOE-FM is a fantastic radio station, and living in Mid-Michigan is wonderful!

A few of my favorite things: Oakland Raiders, Lost, Houghton Lake, Grandfather clocks, camping, cheeseburgers, watching thunderstorms, Tom Petty, Hunt For Red October, feetie pajamas, hot fudge sundaes, sleeping late on the weekends, pinball.

Thanks for listening to 97-3 JOE-FM – talk to you on the radio!

Lightning Bugs

Jul 02, 2008 -- 4:42pm

Lightning bugs are amazing. I think they are, and so does my cat. In fact, the only thing I love to do more than watch lightning bugs, is watching my cat watch lightning bugs.

Since I'm from the coast of California, lightning bugs are new to me. There's a few questions I have...maybe you can help me out with the answers.

1.  When they light up, do they get hot?
2.  Do you think it hurts when they light up?
3. If they use gas when they light up, have they been affected by the gas prices?
4. Which is the most acceptable term: "lightning bug" or "fire-fly"?

Mmmmmm....cookies

Jun 10, 2008 -- 3:52pm

A crunchy cookie or a soft cookie. Do you have to like one or the other? Can you like crunchy and soft equally? I don't think we can be defined by our cookie preference. I believe that one can love a crunchy cookie when one is in the mood for crunchy, while a soft cookie can satisfy you completely when soft is what you crave.

Walnuts on the other hand, walnuts should never be in a cookie. Nothing ruins a cookie faster and more completely than a walnut...except for a raisin. What could be worse than raisins in cookies? Nothing. As a matter of fact, raisins ruin everything.

Mmmmmm...cream

Jun 04, 2008 -- 5:43pm

Everyone keeps 'making fun' of my coffee. Can you believe that? Coffee! With everything that is going on in the world today, coffee is the worst thing in the world?!

OK, so I do use a little more cream than the average person; a quart a work-week, and that includes my wife using some cream too. I only pour in enough cream to fill about a quarter of my coffee cup. And it makes the coffee such a pretty beige color.

17280000 seconds to go!

Jun 03, 2008 -- 4:14pm

What am I going to do until January 2009? That's 7 months from now! 200 days! 4800 hours! 288000 minutes! That's how long us 'Losties' must wait until the next episode of Lost.

There are some that have given up on Lost. Some who have lost faith in Lost. Some who's impatience have gotten the best of them. Not me. I can endure a 7 month hiatus of, what will become one of the greatest TV shows of all time.

Oh, and I don't care that Locke was the guy who ended up in the coffin. Obviously the Island was done with him to allow him to die...or be killed.

Fire...Fire...Fire

May 27, 2008 -- 6:14pm

You know what the best thing in the world is? Having a fire-pit in your backyard. What could be more relaxing than staring at a fire with your loved one and your favorite beverage. That's how I spent my Memorial Day weekend.

My wife has discovered that placing the fire wood in a 'tee-pee' will make the fire burn best. Simply gather some branches, a few pieces of newspaper, and a log or two and light 'em up. It's endless entertainment that's much better than any TV show...except for Lost.

First Memory

May 20, 2008 -- 3:19pm

My first memory is watching blood gush out of my eye. I was 4 years old, and as the story goes, I was chasing a friend of mine around a pool table and tackled eye-first the corner of a fireplace. My Dad held me up to a mirror so I could see what was going on - that was my first memory!

What happened next was a trip to the hospital with a quick detour home to show my Mom what had happened. Mom was hosting a Tupperware party, so you could only imagine the chaos that erupted when a bleeding 4 year old entered the room!

All that remains today is a scar above my left eye, and a memory - my first memory!
